The Funky Blu Roots is a Pompano Beach FL based funky blues-rockin’ quartet who will release their sophomore release in May of 2011 titled "Owasco Highball."

The Funky Blu Roots are following up a successful Spring ‘315 Tour’ and a Fall ‘Finger Lakes’ tour of 2010 with a Summer tour of the Northeast. Venue owners, club managers and fans alike have been raving about the guitar stylings of Mikal Serafim.

Songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Mikal Serafim of Miami Beach, and his wife, Auburn NY native Nancy Giannone on bass guitar, have made new acquaintances in the Central New York region and have incorprated these talents along with their Florida comrades in the making of "Owasco Highball."

The new CD of original music will feature guest artists such as drummer David Olson (two-time Grammy award-winner formerly of the Robert Cray Band, Dr. Killdean, A Natural Fact), harmonica wizard Tom Townsley (The Backsliders), sax player Chris Sawyer (Soul Traders) drummer Steve Reichlen (Mutron Warriors), David Prince, Sax and Keith (Doc) Allison on drums and Jason Rozner on Trumpet! All will be participating on selected dates for the tour!

The Funky Blu Roots, which was formed in 2007, mix their original songs during a show that includes covers by such artists as Sonny Boy Williamson, Bob Marley, The Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddie King, Al Green, Derek Trucks, Robben Ford, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, Albert King, Bill Withers, Santana and the Neville Brothers, among others.

Serafim also has an alternative rock band who released a self-titled CD in 2009 called Crooked Hat.
